French Bread Pizza

This is not really a recipe as such but really just a method on how we make our French bread pizzas.  This is an easy meal to make for lunch or dinner and you can make them with any toppings that you want.

Mr. Meat Eater is pretty traditional in his pizza toppings and I just found out a week or two ago that he doesn’t like green peppers on his pizza.  We have been eating pizza with green peppers on them for 35 years *face palm*!

I know they are called French bread pizzas but I usually use Italian bread.  If I can’t find the Italian bread I want, I use French bread sticks (just smaller loaves).

I have, in the past, frozen these.  Put the completely made but unbaked pizzas on a baking sheet and put in the freezer until frozen.  Then take each pizza, wrap in plastic wrap and carefully put in a large ziplock bag and return to freezer.  Bake at 375º for about 30 minutes or until completely baked and hot.  Note that this baking temperature is different than the one below..

French Bread Pizza

1 loaf of French or Italian bread, cut in half lengthwise
Super Easy Pizza Sauce or jarred sauce
Shredded cheese ~ I use pizza cheese but use your favorites, shredded
Toppings ~ use your favorites

Preheat oven to 400º.

Place bread halves on a baking sheet.

With the bread face up, spoon on some pizza sauce. Don’t use too much or it will be too saucy.

I always put the cheese on next so that the toppings will “stick” as the cheese melts. Save a sprinkle of cheese or two for the very top.

Add your toppings. I usually use pepperoni and mushrooms. The mushrooms I use are canned because I can drain them really well and I don’t have to take the time to saute them.

Sprinkle a bit of leftover cheese over the top.

Bake for 8-10 minutes or until cheese is melted and toppings are heated up.

I cut mine in pieces and serve.

Makes 2-3 servings depending on the size of your bread.  You can make as many pizzas as you need.

Bruschetta Pizza

Last day of Super Bowl goodies!

WOW!  This pizza packs a lot of punch for virtually NO work!   If you are looking for an easy, flavorful recipe ~ this is IT!  You can always make your own dough and bruschetta if you want.  Make sure you get the dough as thin as possible.

I saw something similar somewhere in my internet travels but I didn’t print it out thinking I would never make it.  It stuck in my head so I made what may or may not be exactly what I saw.

1 THIN Boboli pizza crust
1 jar bruschetta ~ can also use refrigerated bruschetta; I used the whole jar but neglected to write down the size of the jar
1 cup Italian blend cheese or pizza cheese ~ use more if you like it cheesy

Preheat oven to 450º.

Place crust on a pizza pan. Spread bruschetta over the top. Sprinkle with cheese.

Bake for 12-15 minutes.

Makes 8 slices.

Super Easy Pizza Sauce

I love this sauce recipe and it’s what I use when I make pizza.  It freezes very well and I usually double or triple it when I do make it so I always have some in the freezer.  I use it with my Pizza Dough (Bread Machine) recipe.  We don’t like too much sauce on our pizzas so this amount would probably cover three pizzas but using it normally, I would say it covers two pizzas.

Easy Pizza Sauce

2 (10.75 ounce) cans of tomato puree
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 tsp Italian seasoning

Combine all ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat. When the sauce begins to bubble, reduce the heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring often. Remove from heat and let cool.

Store in the refrigerator or use immediately. It can also be frozen.

Makes about 1 1/2 cups pizza sauce.

Mushroom Bread

I LOVE mushrooms ~ I think I could eat them in anything.  This recipe is more like a pizza than it is bread but either way it meets my easy and delicious criteria.  Of course, you can use any type of mushroom you like.

Mushroom Bread

1 pkg Recipe Creations crescent dough by Pillsbury
2 cups sliced fresh mushrooms
3 tbsps butter, melted
1 cup grated mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
sprinkling of Italian seasoning and garlic powder to taste

Preheat oven to 375º.

Roll out dough on a lightly greased cookie sheet.

Toss sliced mushrooms in butter to coat and arrange on dough. Sprinkle with cheeses and seasonings.

Bake for 20 minutes.

Cut into squares and serve warm.

Serves 6-8

Pizza Dough (Bread Machine)

I love this pizza dough recipe. It’s easy since my bread machine does all the work and I love the flavor the beer gives to it. I make one large pizza with the dough but you could make two small pizzas (personal size) with one recipe of the dough.

If you’re anything like me, you will forget to let the beer get flat. All I do is pour it into a measuring cup, stir it like crazy for a bit and then let it sit for an hour or so and then it’ll be flat enough. It just can’t foam up in the bread machine.

I have also had good success in making the dough in the morning, putting it in a greased bowl, covered, and letting it sit in the refrigerator all day. I pull it out about an hour before I want to make the pizza to let it come to room temperature.

I have also used this recipe when making a pizza for the grill ~ I use a pizza stone specially made for the grill.

I have a good recipe for pizza sauce but in the picture I used jarred sauce so I will save that recipe for another day.

Pizza Dough (Bread Machine)

1 cup flat beer
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 1/2 cups flour
2 1/4 teaspoons yeast

Put ingredients in bread machine in order recommended by manufacturer. Use dough setting.

When machine is completed, remove dough and place in greased bowl. Cover; let rise in a warm place until doubled in bulk. Roll or press in prepared pan. Brush lightly with olive oil. Cover and let stand 15 minutes.

Add sauce and toppings. Bake at 400º for 24 minutes or until done and crust is crispy on outside.

Makes 1 large pizza or 2 small pizzas.
