I love trifles and I make a few different ones but this is my family’s favorite. I was supposed to make this for Christmas but never got around to it ~ besides, we had sweets coming out of our ears. I made it for New Year’s instead after not having made it for a few years and everyone was happy ~ well, not me because I don’t eat it ~ ack!
The picture isn’t that good ~ I really need to learn how to use that lighting/background kit DH gave me for Christmas!
Brownie Trifle
1 (19.8 ounce) pkg. brownie mix (you can always use your own recipe)
1/4 cup Kahlua (optional)
2 small pkgs. of instant chocolate pudding
1 (12 ounce) container Cool Whip (I use 1 pint of whipping cream, whipped)
Chocolate covered brickle bits (I use plain brickle bits since this dessert is so chocolatey)
Prepare and bake brownies according to package directions. Prick top of warm brownies with a fork and pour Kahlua over the top. Let brownies cool and break up into small pieces.
Prepare pudding according to package but do not chill. Whip cream if not using Cool Whip.
Place 1/3 of brownies in bottom of trifle bowl, top with 1/3 pudding then 1/3 Cool Whip, then sprinkle with bits. Continue layering 2 more times ending with Cool Whip. Sprinkle top with bits.
Refrigerate for at least 4 hours ~ 8 hours is best.
Makes about 14-16 servings.
Happy Cooking!
Someone brought this to a church function this past weekend and said they used sugar free pudding and Light Cool Whip. It was delicious.
Oh good! I was hoping it would be OK with the sugar-free pudding. I think I’ll try it with the sugar free Cool Whip, too. Thank you!
Now THAT sounds absolutely delicous!!
I like the trifle ~ I cut out sugar (at the WRONG time of the year, LOL) but I sneak a little here and there.
Its too bad you don’t like it. I got a lighting background kit for Christmas too which I think its going to take some getting used to
