Oven Barbecued Beef Short Ribs

Back at the beginning of this blog, I posted a recipe for Barbecue-y Beef Short Ribs and this recipe is similar but I think I like it a little better. It does take some time to bake but the end result is worth it. It is not spicy at all so don’t let the ingredients of the sauce scare you. I found the recipe in My Mama Made That by the Junior League of Hampton Roads and adapted it for our tastes.

Oven Barbecued Beef Short Ribs
3 lbs boneless beef short ribs
1/2 cup of chopped onions
2 tbsps minced garlic
1 tsp cumin
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
2 tbps vegetable oil
1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 tsp liquid smoke
Preheat oven to 350º.
Arrange the ribs in a baking pan and bake, covered, for 1 hour.
Saute the onion, garlic, cumin and cayenne pepper in the oil in a saucepan over medium heat for about 5 minutes. Stir in the rest of the ingredients and simmer over low heat for 10 minutes.
Remove the ribs from the oven and pour off any grease. Pour the sauce over the top and make sure all the ribs are well coated with sauce.
Bake, covered, for 1 hour. Remove cover and continue baking for 30 more minutes or until ribs are tender, turning and basting a few times.
Serves 4 to 6.
Happy Cooking!

I would still plan on 1 hour but start watching them at the 45 minute mark and see how they are doing.

These were amazingly delicious, and the sauce was stunning at the end. Thank you for sharing this recipe.

You could turn on your broiler after baking them to get a browning/crisping/blackening that is similar to the grill. Only difference is that they will be very very tender as well as blackened in contrast to just grilling. That and it is a lot easier than stepping outside and lighting up the grill.

Perfect timing! I have 4 pkgs of boneless short ribs in the freezer, just need to thaw and try it out. Sounds delish, thanks!
